JEE Main results 2023: UP twins succeed, claim they helped one another study

Nipun Goel and Nikunj Goel, twins from Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district, scored 100 and 99.998 percentile respectively in the Joint Entrance Examination (Mains) on Tuesday, results they said took them a step closer to achieving their dream of studying computer science at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

“IIT opens the door to a sea of opportunities. We don't want to continue with a pre-packaged career option. Civil services or business opportunities, whatever comes our way, we will explore it,” said Nipun. “If we get the chance, we may even consider going to Shark Tank to get investment in our business model. We do not exclude anything. We still have some time."

While Nipun was among the 20 candidates who scored 100 percentiles in the first session of JEE (Main), the results of which were declared on Tuesday, his brother Nikunj was not far behind with a near-perfect percentile of 99.998. “We want to pursue engineering in computer science from either IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi. A lot will depend on how we score in JEE Advanced,” said Nikunj.

JEE (Main) score serves as eligibility criteria for JEE (Advanced) for admission to IITs. The twins aged 17 said that while they maintained a healthy competition in academics, they always helped each other better understand a wide range of concepts in physics and mathematics. It was good learning when they studied under the same roof and got similar marks in school exams, the brothers said.

“For the past two years, we have been praising each other while preparing for JEE Main. We identified our strengths and weaknesses and helped each other whenever we had trouble understanding any concept,” said Nipun, adding that they were determined to crack the test in the first attempt. “Our elder sister Shivangi also cracked IIT-JEE and is now working with American Express. We want to follow her path,” said Nikunj.

Talking about the difficulties they faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, Nipun said, “There was a sudden shift from offline to online courses, which was not easy for us. Despite saving a lot of time by traveling, we could not physically interact with the teachers to clarify our doubts.”

Sanjay Goel said, “It is a matter of pride that all my three children have cracked JEE and our family is very happy.
